Hi,

I'm replacing my misted up double glazed windows with new units tomorrow, but I'm unsure as to whether the black tape on the edges of my new units will need to be removed or not.

I've looked on Youtube and they all seem to leave them on, but won't this potentially lead to water getting trapped between the tape and the unit causing them to fail:?:

Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance.

The black tape is only put on to make the units safe to handle as annealed glass has sharp edges.

If you are dry glazing, then it can be left on. Ie upvc with gaskets or aly or dry glazed timber.

Im not sure about upvc with security foam tape -but prob still leave on

Remove it only if wet glazing with silicone or maybe butyl tape.

It doesnt matter if the seal is imperfect and leaks -thats why sashes are drained and vented.
