Dodgy joists in the loft?

Hey....hoping somone can advise on loft floor joists which appear to have been nailed together right in the middle of their span (see pic).

Naturally I'm worried about boarding over this, but judging by eye, these joists (3 in all) look to be above a bedroom wall which, in turn, is supported by an RSJ above living room.

Maybe my forum id should be "Weekend Worrier"?

Lol, thought that as I was writing, but was hoping some wise sage would confirm this is "normal practice".

It's the same in my loft. Just dig through that insulation and you'll see what they're sitting on.
