Dodgy manhole

I have a deep manhole which is suffering wear and tear. There are 2 large concrete rings above the drain which are pretty much OK except for 1 small chip. Above this are 2 narrower concrete rings, I think they may be called are called do'nuts. Both are cracked badly. I have had the cracks sealed as far as possible but there is still one crack which is too awkward to reach. Soil has been leaching into the drain from the drive and the tarmac is quite buckled although the drain runs freely. I no longer drive over the cover so can't use the carport. Is there anything I can do? Is it really serious? I have been unable to find anyone willing to carry out a repair. Any advice much appreciated.

dig out round the manhole and reinforce with concrete this should repair the crack from the outside to stop the soil and also stop further damage as the manhole will be much stronger

how old is your property, and does the manhole service any of your neighbours drains?

if it serves more than one property, and the properties are pre-WWII (ish) then the are the responsibility of the local water authority.

I found this out after years of having to unblock our drains every 3 months. Now i give them a call and they are on a 4 hour response. They say once i have called them out 4 times, they will do the full rerplacement with plastic drains.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately the property is post war and neither the council nor the water board will help.

Thanks again again for the replys. I do have photos but am not sure how to post them. I'll let you have them if I work out how.

The suggestion of concreting round the drain sounds a way out. I can't do it myself, (not as young as I was!) but I'll try again to find a builder who will do it.
