DOGE gets kicked in the nuts

Putin has had years of practice lying to political leaders, tricking and deceiving them, outwitting them and breaking his word.

Trump’s amateurs are no match for him.

This is a quote from an article I posted earlier on another thread, but it sums up that point of view:

A Russian international affairs scholar, who can speak only privately, remarked to me from Moscow that Putin’s team sees Trump’s team as a clown car, full of amateurs — easy pickings for the savvy and cynical Putin’s ultimate goal: “MRGA — Make Russia Great Again (and Make America Less Great Again).” Putin’s long-term goal, he added, is to manage the decline of U.S. hegemony so that America is “just one of the peer great powers,” focused on the Western Hemisphere and withdrawn militarily from Europe and Asia. Putin sees Trump as his blunt instrument “to manage that inevitable decline.”

Will Trump and his G.O.P. bobbleheads ever wake up to that? Maybe — when it’s too late.

Perhaps you should get out more, or read the post more carefully.

It is an empty and pointless post which adds nothing. As you know, I am always up for a proper, serious discussion.

Grow up.

I really don't understand what you mean, here. What's wrong with quoting anonymous sources. This is from a Pulitzer prize winning columnist with an impeccable reputation. Do you think he just invented it?

Edited to add that the journalist in question has won three Pulitzer prizes.

'anonymous sources,' 'an undisclosed source', 'somebody who prefers to remain anonymous'

**** off MN, you're brighter than that, an anonymous source told me you were, it was Notch.

Anonymous sources obviously can be problematic. But they can also be very important. Think about Watergate etc. Which is why you have to balance their use against the quality and reputation of the writer:

The Pulitzer Prize is regarded as the highest national honor in print journalism

To win three Pulitzer prizes, you need to have an impeccable reputation and be at the absolute top of your profession. I have no problem with somebody of this integrity using anonymous sources, when he feels it is necessary to protect them. I have a feeling, though, that you are not open to a polite discussion tonight.

He's back...

Jon Stewart noted on his return on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Doge will not touch the $3bn in subsidies given to oil and gas companies, a hedge fund loophole worth $1.3bn a year, or the $2tn given to defence contractors to build a fighter jet that will soon be obsolete. “This is where the real money is,” Stewart said.

Anyone who starts a post with:

What's so great about, Putin?

deserves to be ignored. It is the sort of thing a 7 year old might ask.
A question so simple that, as you rightly say, could be asked by a 7 year old.
Yet you cannot answer it?
Is it too difficult for you?

You are such a bore  I don't have the energy to waste on silly games.

There is nothing "great" about Putin. Which is why it was such an infantile question. If you could rephrase the question in the way an adult might, so that I can actually understand what you want to know, I will give it further consideration. In the meantime, the concerns I raised at the start, about Trump's team ability to deal with Putin, are summed up very well in the quote I gave above, which is repeated:

A Russian international affairs scholar, who can speak only privately, remarked to me from Moscow that Putin’s team sees Trump’s team as a clown car, full of amateurs — easy pickings for the savvy and cynical Putin’s ultimate goal: “MRGA — Make Russia Great Again (and Make America Less Great Again).” Putin’s long-term goal, he added, is to manage the decline of U.S. hegemony so that America is “just one of the peer great powers,” focused on the Western Hemisphere and withdrawn militarily from Europe and Asia.
