Donald! Where's yer troosers?

I love facts. See post #41
EU or US cars attract the same level of local tax, there is no discrimination. Unless you want US cars to have a lower tax rate than EU cars, in the EU?

Who cares about a bit of tax. The way I see it is if you like a car regardless to where it is made or regardless of the tax. You will still buy it. I wouldnt care less about tarriffs. The price is simply the price and I don't care about splitting down the costs of how much is the car and how much is the tax.

You will be guided by an invisible hand to make the decision which is best for you.

If I like it I buy it. A Tarrif will make no difference to me. I earn plenty not to worry over such trivea. The average person doesn't either.

Two identical cars. One costs ten percent more than the other. Which do you buy? Now you understand tariffs :)

Generally, me too. Maybe shop around to see if I can find the same thing cheaper, but price isn't everything.

Cars aren't a particularly good case study for how tariffs affect behaviour because the decision is often an emotional one.

OK, if the EU exports a car to the US the import tariff is (or was) 3%, there's no vat but when the vehicle is sold it attracts a local state sales tax, usually between 3-7.5%, some states have zero % sales tax, so the to total tax to the end user is between 6 and 10.5%

A car going from the US to the EU is subject to a 10% tariff plus 20% vat, 30% tax to the end user
Your VAT argument is wrong.

Eg car imported from USA at €40,000 to Germany. At point of sale 20% VAT is added
Car manufactured in Germany, €40,000. At point of sale 20% VAT is added
