was looking aruond for answers for the title above.
but was unsure if the link topic was on about hollow soffit or not.

I know my best option is porbably Gu10 LED bulbs in a IP65 enclosure probably low voltage.

and i should rule out CLF gu10's as they take an age to light up fully ( seeing as is is a porch that will have a pir in the hood aswell it's going to be more and on and off senario than anything else?

but the LED buld seem to be a bit expensive well for decent ish ones

http://www.lightingstyles.co.uk/Acc...mps/LEDs//High_Power_3W_Retrofit_LED_Lamp.htm

so for a two light setup with pir you're talking £100 ish

is it worth it?
could i get by using something else cheaper?

Thanks for any relpies

If it's just for a porch light off a PIR then I'd go for 12V MR16s. You'll get plenty of light out of 20W and you will get a much more pleasant reflection off the walls (depending on how close they are, of course).

LEDs will look cold in the sodium light, and CFLs are nowhere near fast enough.

Thanks for the replies and info,
In reply, it's a brand new porch so no asbestos
it's 9mm hollow upvc plastic soffit

The main issue i am worried about is the heat any lights give off and how it will effect the UPVC

So you're saing 12v MR16 bulbs, but no higher than 20w

We installed 2W LEDs, don't remember where I got them from but were about £2.50 each for the lamps, shower fittings from Toolstation.

At 14W for 7 lamps I have not got around to fitting the light sensor yet.
