Drain washing machine straight out through wall

My washing machine is about a metre away from the sink drain and I would have to route pipes around the back of (and also cut through) cabinets in order for it to reach the sink trap. It feels like it would make more sense if I just cut a hole in the external wall behind the WM and have it drain directly out and then join up to the main drain outside. Is there any reason I would need to join the WM waste to the sink trap?

It'll need a trap, use a standpipe inside.

As denso13 says, but you need to be sure there is room for a standpipe and trap behind the machine. If not, look at putting them in another cupboard and running the washing machine waste through the side of that cupboard.

How were you planning to do that? Are you connecting it directly to say a waste stack? Or is there a gulley or similar?

Ah, over keen with my reply There's a pipe which goes out from my house under the sink and then down to the metal grate of the drain itself. If my wm drain came out at a different point it would just need to travel about a metre to the right and about 50cm down to meet up with where the other pipe meets the grate.
