Hi All

Sorry if this is in the wrong section im new hear.

Im starting an extension at my home, on the side of the house.

I already have a side extension but I want to bring it further forward to the front of the house.

My problem is there is a manhole about 500mm in front of the original extension. I have been told that I should dig a hole large enough to take a new chamber in front of the new extension and cut into the pipe and add the new chamber.

This seems simple enough but my issue is I need to lay an oversite over the area where the existing manhole is. Do I need to remove the lid and all the bricks and connect all the pipework together with fittings sold today or is there any other options which will pass building regs.

I hope I have given enough detail.

All advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

I think you could leave the existing manhole in place and use a double seal lid and make it 'kinda' accessible.

I'm not too sure about it. Perhaps others might confirm or not?

I assume from your post that the pipe will run under your extension. If so you will need to bridge the foundations over the pipe. Are you certain that this is a private sewer i.e. carrying your waste water only? If it is a public sewer then you will have to involve the local sewer authority, and that could be a nightmare, I know, i'm just coming to the end of the dispute. A civil engineering contractor is now in my back garden replacing the sewer to make it suitable for build over.

A double seal lid seems alot easier. I will look into this.

Its definetly just the private sewer so thats a good thing.

Yeh your right the drain will pass through the footings and I was going to run a lintol accross the pipe to bridge it but not to sure about the proper way of doing it.

Thanks Guys
