I have a leaky rad joint, so I want to drain my CH system. I've had a read of a few similar posts, so have the general idea.

From what i can see I have a thermal store tank (connected to an oil fired Worcester boiler) and I don't think I have a feeder tank, it all looks mains fed - so i'm assuming this is an indirect vented system?

Roughly how long would it take to drain off enough water to remove the rad (which is upstairs) which has a leaky joint? I only have 3 rads in total upstairs and 1 downstairs.

Earlier I syphoned off 3 bucket loads (from a drain point on the downstairs rad), but the upstairs rad join was still dripping, so I gave up and turned the main water on again at the stopcock.

Once I did this it sounded like the thermal store tank was refilling? Would this be the case and would I first need to drain all the water off from the tank before it starts to clear the rads?

Many thanks

Rupe

more or less

how long depends on the flow rate from the drain point
