Draining heating system

I want to move a radiator to a new position which means lengthening the original pipe work. Its a real pain having to drain the entire system and wonder if there is an alternative than doing this or using the freeze kit. I've heard there is a device you can put in the expansion tank to cause an air lock?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
