Drayton Programmers the most useless and difficult ones?

Got a Drayton LP522 and honestly it's the most difficult and annoying user menu.

These models have been in use for 20 years at least.

They could have improved it in that time.

Had a siemens for 15 years and it was very easy to change times / change 5/2 to 7 day same etc without the need of scrolling through a set menu.

But the Drayton seem to be the only ones on the market.

Nope, plenty of programmers on the market, including Siemens. Have an internet search of 2 channel programmer. Drayton are quite easy imo.

Which store? Screwfix and Toolstation have Honeywell and merchants will stock a variety. Wolseley sell the Siemens one.

They may be, but so could any programmer.
I have an early Gen 2 Nest, it has performed faultlessly for the last 10 years.

But going back to your original question...

As there has been a gradual move to smart thermostats etc, has there really been a need to update the standard programmer?

As earlier, a Hive, or a Wiser, is a straight swap for many old Draytons - there is no need for any wiring changes; you get the benefits of a thermostat and programmer in one unit, the timings can be changed in a user friendly way; from the stat, or in the app.

Alternatively, there may be some who do not want to change, and are comfortable with what they have been using for decades. In which case, again, is there any need to change the old design?

Whilst technology does have its benefits, don't trust the "control heating by an app" would definitely be open to hacking one way or another.

Wouldn't be surprised pretty soon energy companies take over your heating for you, they already have smart meters installed for you. The way this country is going, it will be considered as "helping you manage" your heating all in the lies of energy efficiency, reducing carbon hoo haa whilst there's a plane landing every 45 seconds at Heathrow. That's just landings.
