I have a drayton wall mount with 3 wires going to the control centre. I want to buy either nest or hive, how do I wire them, First which one is easier.

All responses appreciated.

Much depends on the rest of the system it's connected to, whether you have a hot water cylinder, S-Plan / Y-Plan or a combi boiler etc. Sometimes the new smart thermostat replaces the room thermostat, sometimes a programmer.

Personally, I would forget Nest as it's a discontinued product in the UK now. Some stock is still available, but support for the older models has finished and remote app control doesn't work with them anymore. The last version '3rd Gen' is still supported but will finish at some point.

Thanks for your reply , I have 20yr old drayton with a programmer upstairs ( old airing Cup ) I have s plan with HWC

In that case you would require a Two Channel Hive (for HW and CH). The Hive would replace the programmer and the old thermostat wiring would be removed and a link inserted to bridge the 'open circuit' created by its removal.

If you did go down the Nest route, the Gen 3 comes as a two channel device and the installation would be as above.
