Not a stud wall, making wall for putting up a microwave mount. Drill gets in about 6cm then can't get much further, with the drill bit lighting up hot orange.
What have I done, what should I do?

A hole 60mm deep should be well deep enough for a quality plastic plug, so long as the diameter hasn't gone oversize....maybe you've hit some particularly hard blue brick in there.
John :)

Well, I just pushed a little harder and it went through, did an old red brick by the looks of the dust.
The problem now is getting the bloody screw into the plug!

i wondered if he hit saom metal,a lintel or a wall tie maybe.
