I need a way of diverting rain water from hitting the top of my bi folds. I intend to put brick slip over the rsj but wanted advice on what to use as a water bead and where to get it. Any ideas ?
I am surprised you could not have just used a heavy duty cavity lintel instead of a steel UB.
Have you got enough space for a brick header to match the rest of the house?
I suspect that a proper firm would have used a lintel, not a beam, and then put bricks back in above the doors, and while they were at it, made a proper job of the reveals instead of squirting foam everywhere.
As it is, you'll need a stainless steel or lead tray behind the slips and over and down the front of that beam
Is it a cavity wall? If so is there a cavity tray above the new beam?
It looks like there is a timber packer between the head of the doors and the beam so I suppose you could fit a stepped aluminium trim/drip that is dressed up over the lower flange of the beam and projects out over the head of the doors but it will be fiddly and I'm not sure the brick slips will even work.
Fair point, I thought I saw some headers but then convinced myself it was just the colour pattern on the bricks, now I can see them clear as day. Clutching at straws they could be snapped headers?
They could be, although it's usually Flemish they use them for. English garden wall bond was normally relagated to the sides and rear of the property and not so commonly used with snapped headers for a mock bond, although I have seen it used on extensions to match up with the old.
