i need a pir about 20 meters from the house to activate an existing security light/pir attached to the house. this is for when i pull up on my drive which is badly lit in a rural area. my existing light comes on when im half way down the path but i need it to light up when i pull up on the drive. any ideas?

Have a look for a clipsall PIR, or even better an extra low voltage GJD PIR and controller. The range on these is staggering, and will allow it to be mounted on the house.
You could run a 6 core alarm cable to the remote position failing that.
