Driveway / Patio drainage

Hi all,

This image shows a rough plan view of my property. Currently, any rainwater that lands on the front driveway or the rear patio just drains down between the paving stones and away into the ground, as there is no dedicated drainage dealing with ground water. Part of me doesn’t like the thought of water draining down and possibly saturating the ground around the foundations, but I’m also thinking there must be countless other properties with similar configurations…

I would appreciate any opinions on whether I’m worrying for nothing or if I should consider having aco drains around the building perimeter perhaps?

Just to be clear, I don’t get any flooding or standing water (touch wood) so the ground below the paving must drain quite well…

Many thanks

What is your substrate ground, is it clay or loam or sand?

Have you thought about what might happen if the water doesn't go into the ground, EG if it is clay might shrink and cause small cracks in your house

No different from millions of other houses that do not have any paving stones cracks for the water to drain down through and so drains wherever the rain lands
