Drowned gas hob - ignition blown?

After excessive use of water to clean our gas hob, the ignition has now broken.

At first it started to fire continually (every second) so I tried leaving it to dry and even turning on all the burners but this didn't help.

Next day I turned the main oven switch back on but the igniter wasn't working at all!

Have checked the hob wire and plug which has a 3A fuse in a 13A plug (suggested to be ok in this topic) and even a new fuse in the plug won't resurrect the hob.

Is there a user serviceable fuse within the hob itself or can the ignition system be replaced (easily)? A completely new hob is going to set me back a fortune if you include the Corgi guy as well.

Many thanks for your help
Stephen

Found a tip elsewhere that suggested using WD40 which I tried last night and it worked brilliantly.

Liberal spraying around the ignition button seems to have cleared either the water or some other 'gunge' away and all is well with the world! Obviously I let it dry first as WD40 is 'very' flammable.

Hope this might help someone else.

I did the exact same thing last week, luckily it started working when it was dried out again: periodically turned it on and found the sparks were getting further apart. It worked next day so I got my Sunday morning fry-up :D

WD40 also wonderful for waterproofing inside distributor cap in car engine. I found it kept points type ignitions running tiptop during real damp weather.

You can also use WD40 to clean the pots inside electric guitar control knobs. Don't use too much or your guitar will sound very quiet until you have played with it enough for the film to wear off/evaporate.
