I'm looking to replace my gas hob, however I've noticed the electric ignition is controlled via an on/off 4 switch (similar to a light switch, but with 4 switches) on the wall. If I turn off one switch the ignition on that particular burner doesn't ignite.

Can anyone tell me why this has been done, if so why didn't they use one isolator switch for all burners.

In addition, will this cause a problem as I'm changing the 4 burner hob for a Five burner hob?

Thanks

all i can say is that all gas appliances should be installed and checked by a corgi registered installer ( i'm not one). that installer should sort out your problem. don't do it yourself, gas is infinately more lethal than electricity. a four bedroom house near me disappeared in an instant. thankfully everyone survived.
