Can or can't I do any of the following straight away after moving into a new build? If no, how long do I need to wait?
  • Put large items of furniture e.g. wardrobes against walls, leaving a small gap between item and wall
  • Attach a small item of furniture directly onto a wall e.g. a shoe rack
  • Put mirrors up on bathroom walls
  • Put shelves up on walls
I know I can't do the following - how long do I need to wait? I have been advised varying things ranging from 9-24 months.
  • Repaint walls
  • Put up unnecessary items on walls e.g. picture frames and mirrors in other rooms
Thanks

Do whatever you want to reduce the stress!

Generally a full year of weather and heating will have dried it out enough to make the cracks appear and then you can redecorate without having to redo it.

You can do anything you like its your house. Repainting using “breathable” paint will be fine.

I would not recommend your first item if you are talking about external walls it may cause condensation mould spots to appear on the paint/plaster.
