Cardiff being a city i was assuming tncs or tns.

why don't you just change the cu for something like londonboy has shown you? you will have more scope for future changes if you need something separate from the main dual rcds.

When he arrives I would like to say 'this is what i thought for the fire alarms'. Im sure if it met regs he will be happy to install and if it doesn't im also sure he wont.

hey, I had a customer like you, didnt work out though - shame

when I first read this post it said 'Fire Alarms' which implies a fire panel which needs a dedicated supply pref. not RCD'd etc.
reading on it implies 'smoke detectors', altogether different!
Smoke detectors should come from local, frequently used, circuit such as a lighting circuit so that
A) it will be apparent if circuit trips
B) not likely to be turned off to 'hush' nuisance alarms

If the OP is mixed up over the difference between a smoke alarm and a fire alarm, I'm wondering if we shouldn't encourage him to get a competent person in.

BAS did suggest this much earlier in the thread.....
