Hi guy's

Can anyone tell me the cheapest place online or shop at the moment to buy some tins of white dulux all seasons paint, i have 85 m2 of roughcast to cover consisting a sealing/pimer coat and 2 top coats. Im going for this brand as i have spent ages trawling through previous posts about exterior paint and this seems to be mentioned often.

The cheapest i have found so far is £33 for 5 litres, i have worked out i probably need 8-10 5litre tins.

Can anyone confirm due to this being an oil based paint do i water it down 20% or use white spirit for the sealing/primer coat???

Cheers

Roughcast eats paint. You'll need double what you are thinking. Go for a water based trade paint. They last just as long and are easier to apply.

As good as...it normally uses twice the amount due to the larger surface area

Is that, erm, effect, on the property as a result of cavity wall insulation, wall ties or something else?

Was considering Cav insulation but having seen that very doubtful now!

Its still cracking stuff to use though. Thin with turps or white spirit, having said that its quite a thin paint to use anyway. Dab over the new bits of cement with stabilsing primer and get going !!

That's the whole problem. What you want for that sort of damage is a THICK paint that will build up and hide the scars,. If you use a thin paint you'll always see them. A cheap paint applied thickly with 2 coats is the way to go.

No paint good or bad will hide scars like that except an highbuild..and on that type of surface its not worth even considering.

Normally when they inject the walls they just drill small holes then they touch them up..it looks like wall tie replacement to me seeing as there are no holes in the apex of the gable on the front.

The holes either havnt been patched very well..or have been done with a pickaxe!

Thanks for the replys guys,

The larger scars are where the old cavity wall ties have been isolated, the smaller ones are new wall ties that have been installed and the medium size scars is cavity wall insulation.

I am really worried about the finished article because i have seen lots of propertys where the scars show up through the painted surface, i thought using a good quality pliolite based paint with a thinned base coat followed by 2 top coats would suffice.

I have been advised to not treat the new patches of render with sealer, but instead water down a base coat???? or thinned with white spirit if using pliolite????

I also have lots of cracks that i have v'eed out and filled with exterior paintable filler to hide

Thinned pliolite on the new bits will be fine..its self stabilising...

Theres no need to thin the first one as the walls look like that they bene painted before...as Rob says Dulux all seasons pliolite does come out a bit on the thin side (like the water based masonry) ...you can always use Jonstones..or Crown..you may find its cheaper and its all more or less the same...the only difference I have found is that Dulux has a slight sheen on it..which is great for reppeling the dirt..but might highlight the scars even more.
