Dummy door handles with bars / spindles

Hi, a puzzler this one - hopefully someone can help please.

My wife bought two sets of vintage door handles complete with plates and bars for some new double doors. However, the handles / plates do not have springs in them which is ok for the side where the latch is as this is string enough to lift the handles back up.

Its the other "dummy" side that is the issue, because there's no latch or mechanism the door handles will simply droop. We could pack the square door bar so that it doesn't move and the handles won't droop but this will be temporary - as soon as someone instinctively tries to open the dummy door they'll force it, the wood will give and it wont return.

So I guess what I'm after is some kind of locked latch or something to hold the door bar still and also stop it from rotating ?.

I hope I've explained this ok - thank you.

I'd be ok if the dummy door handle was just on one side as I'd simply use a Taylor spindle to lock everything in place but we need dummy handles on both sides so some kind of internal locking mechanism is needed.
