E-glass standard or not

Just had a conservatory built couple of questions.

1) The sales man told me it would be e-glass it has now been constructed. looking on the paper work it says nothing about e-glass is e-glass standard? how can you tell if it is or not? another thing there was no label saying pilkington e glass should there have been? there was paper labels but some of these where facing in some out.

2) I had some french doors fitted to another part of the house before and these had a kite mark and stated safety glass the new doors windows have no such mark is this normal not to have the mark? is there any way to make sure?( with out breaking them)

stickers are usually on window to say which side should be facing in on k-glass.
doesnt sound as if you have them.
ask the firm the questions you have.
the kite mark is for safety glass,used on doors.
i've heard a metal detector might pick up something within the glass but i havent seen it workyet.
ask the firm.

If it's Pilkington-K 'hard-coat' glass it has a very slight grey/bluish tinge that is usually un-noticeable but can be seen in direct sunlight if you know what you are looking for. 'Soft-coat' low-e glass, as made by St Gobain and others, is less easy to detect visually.

there might be some writing between the two panes of glass, on the metal seperator. have a look and if so post what it reads.

No theres nothing on the seperator

The BS6206 kite mark tells you it is safety glass but does not tell you whether or not there is a low-emmisivity coating.

There will be no markings on the glass other than a kitemark (if it is Toughened Safety or Laminated Safety glass) and maybe even the manufacturers name across the internal spacer-bar.

"Low E" or "Pilkington K" glass must be fitted to all new windows, doors and conservatories in accordance with Document L of the building regulations and some glass companies will have a small hand-held device which can detect whether or not the glass is indeed a K glass or a Low E glass. This is one way to check.

As far as conservatories are concerned the rules are different and a little confusing.
The conservatory doesn't have to comply with Document L if there is an internal wall and a doorway between the conservatory and the house because it is deemed to be seperate to the house dwelling (ie the conservatory in this case will not effect heat loss in the house because it is seperated by the external wall). However, most window companies will fit Low E of K glass regardless of this.

It does apply if the external wall onto which the conservatory has been built has been opened up so that the conservatory becomes an extension to an existing room because by doing this the conservatory now becomes part of the dwelling and is now heated.
Document L of the Building Regs is basically all about keeping heat within the building to conserve energy.
