I am having a new Kitchen fitted and my electrics are in good order kitchen is RCD protected. There is a chance that i will be charged £200 to improve the earth bonding in the kitchen - is this not something I can do my self?

I understand the basics of electrics and have done a DIY electric course?

your advice is gratefully received. :D

Supplementary bonding in kitchens (e.g. the kitchen sink) is no longer required

However the incoming water main and gas main must be main-bonded where they enter the house, to the main earthing terminal which is by the meter or in the Consumer unit, using a single length of 10mm G&Y cable

This is not notifiable work and you are permitted to do it yourself

The connections to the pipes must be accessible for inspection and maintenance. Under a laminated floor is not accessible.

It will be a good idea to do it prior to the electrician visiting so he can see and test it. If it is satisfactory there is no reason he should install a new one.

be aware that not all kitchen fitters are competent electricians
