Hi all, just wanted to check on something, probably seems stupid but want advice anyway.

Rebuilding a cupboard under our stairs and wanted to tidy up a couple of cables. 2 of which are earth (bonding?) cables. The mains cables are easy enough but I wasnt sure if the power had to be off for moving the earths?

Its a simple case of taking them out of the connectors and passing them through the studwork to keep them tidier.

Advice please.... :)

Always turn the power off when working with electric cables.

If there is an earth fault in the house (maybe only a small one) then the end of that earth cable will be live when you disconnect it from the earth.

Also it is possible that all of the copper pipes in the house would also become live.

Thats why the notices on earth conductors say
"SAFETY ELECTRICAL EARTH - DO NOT REMOVE".

Suspected as much, thanks for the heads up.

I have checked the cables for 'live' with my tester but thought I better check.

TY.

You wont get any indication while the earth is still connected.
Dont trust those glowy testers with your life!

Good luck..
