There are all sorts of parallel paths one could think of, but none of them could possibly have explained what I thought we were being told - that with all cabins starting off with very high Zes, installing an earth rod at just one of them brought the Ze in that cabin down to 35Ω, but down to 12Ω in a distant cabin. Without something else going on, that would be impossible.

However, it now seems that the two Ze's were not measured at the same time, and things (e.g. rain) may have changed things in the meantime - i.e. when the Ze in the cabin distant from the rod was 12Ω, the one at the cabin with the rod may have been 12Ω or below, rather than the 35Ω it had been when previously measured.
