I need to earth a bilge pump in a fibreglass boat. It requires the pump neg to earth and the 12v battery neg to earth.
Has anybody got advice on how to do that please
Jim
Just use another wire to join the negative terminals (pump & battery) together. This isn't earthing as in mains electricity. The terminology by convention in 12V car/boat systems is to call the body of the car the earth. By using the metal body there is only need for one wire to the point of use. With fibre-glass you need two. It is a good idea if using a battery in a boat to use both a fuse rated for the circuit and a fusible link at the terminal.
