What are the earth-bonding requirements for exterior CCTV cameras?
I've just got into doing a big project and there is a lot of confusion out there because different countries have different rules.
On one end of the scale are people saying there must be a lightning strike rated surge protector at the ingress point of every camera cable, bonded to earth using at least 6awg cable. On the other end are people saying it's entirely optional.
I can't work it out in my head... yes surely a lightning strike might cause a fire if it over-loaded the thin data cables into the house... but at the same time, my aerial, sky dish, exterior lights etc are all out on the walls with nothing more than, at best, a passive shunt.
What are the regs for this stuff?
