Hi all,

I added a filter unit to my system, which meant draining the system and then refilling it. I also vented the boiler at the bleed nipple out the outflow pipe.

Upon restarting, I get a "fan"/Motor" noise coming from the boiler, but the LCD panel does not power up. I have checked the fuse on the back and the connections, and they all look okay. is there any other safety cut off that would kill the LCD panel, that I need to reset?

Thanks in advance.

Malcolm

You need to get a registered installer in to look at it. Did you accidentally get any water on the boiler when draining or venting?

Thanks for replying.
No water on the boiler - it has been running for 10 years, and I have drained it in the past to replace radiators and followed the same procedure.

When I finished installing the inline filter (to the inflow pipe to the left of the boiler), I cleared the air via the radiators and the air vent above the flow pipe. The boiler makes a sound like a motor starting up and then stops. It keeps repeating this until powered down.

But the LCD panel remains blank, not even the green backlight goes on. Further investigation, shows the LCD panel has power at the back, and there isn't any air in the system. But the LCD remains dead and the boiler makes a good impression of a jet engine trying to start up!

Next step is an expensive call out, but I have a nagging feeling, it's just something i need to reset....

Annoyingly, sometimes the simple act of turning these off and on again can kill the circuit board. When was it last serviced? If it hasn't been done recently and sounds like a jet engine then you may have bigger problems than just the board!

The boiler has been serviced every year by BGT. The last service was in June by the helpful BG guy.
He gave it a clean bill of health with a suggestion that I add the filter. Which is how we got into this position!

A local supplier sells new and reconditioned PCB's - £50 with part exchange for a recon unit.
He also suggested PCB failure was common, but the LCD panel rarely failed. (LCD Panels sold at £75)
Considering a callout was going to cost circa £100 and I'd probably have to pay circa £200 for a new PCB, I took the plunge and got a recon PCB, even though the old one looked fine
Swap out involved 8 connectors and was very simple, and to my surprise, the boiler started up straight away and is working great now.

As Muggles suggested, it was very likely the simple act of switching it off and on.

Maybe this will be useful to another pioneer one day, but I do not accept any liability if something goes wrong
Now to get back to looking for a job, so I can stay out o trouble :)
