Hi All

As it is starting to get a little chilly now, I just thought that I would give the central heating a run. I initially noticed that the pressure bar was low, 1.1, so I increased the pressure to 1.4.

I put the system on and after about 10 mins all rads were hot and so thought I would turn system off. The temp gauge of the boiler was past the red area and when I checked the pressure on the boiler it said 3.1, I shut the boiler off quickly, as thought that the boiler could blow!! I checked the water inlet valves and these were both off.

After a while the pressure returned to 1.4. When I tried the hot water, which has been on all summer, the pressure bar only went as far as 1.7 and stayed there.

I think therefore there is a problem, as I did not expect the pressure bar to be so high when using central heating, any ideas of what problem might be?

P.S. system has run for last 4 years since installation ok, never noticed pressure this high.

Thanks.

easy job so ya should be able to do it.
turn boiler off n release pressure using the drain off. using a foot pump, pump the red vessel up to about 1 bar. close drain off n re-fill sys

Thanks for your response and explantion, but I am very much a beginner at this and never done much with my boiler. I do not know where the drain off is located or what the red vessel is or where it could be located. Your explanation of what to do is good, however can you help me out with the above queries.

Thanks again.

the drain off is norm on the isolation valves, looks like a nipple. the vessel is a big red thing which is norm behind the front cover.
