I have an Ecotec Exclusive Green IQ 835, coming up for 5 years old. In this time, it's had at least 6 warranty call outs which is a shame as I went with Vaillent as I was very happy with the boiler in our old house.

The main issue is the O2 sensor being replaced once a year and today the fault code is back, though this time, the boiler is still working. Last time the engineer came, he changed the settings to put a delay on the boiler firing if someone just turns the hot tap on for 5 seconds (the teaspoon washers as he called them) so the sensor isn't constantly preheated during the purge cycle.

The warranty is now ending and I see the sensors are £125, so at the current rate, around 2500 quids worth with labour over the next 10 years.

Is this a know issue with these boilers? The 834 in the old house was still on the original sensor after 10 years. Unless there's an uprated part, or a non vaillent sensor to try, I'm not sure what to do, other than suggest they replace it with an non green iq boiler.

Thanks, Barry

Absolute Lemon of a boiler & i like & install vaillant.
C/o sensor fails for fun & the boilers completely over engineered for something that's just supposed to heat water.
I haven't met a gas guy yet who's had a good experience with the IQ range & vaillant tech won't give fixes(tweaks) that group service guys make , fan speed adjustments etc .
My advice , either get on a contract or swap it out .
If it was mines id definitely install another vaillant just not the IQ.
Doubt the boiler in old house would utilities the c/o sensor, sure its only the IQ range that have it.

Thanks for the advice which probably confirms what I thought. In some way it helps knowing it's not just mine that's a Friday afternoon boiler. I'll speak to them about taking the warranty out to the full 10 years as a first step.

The boiler in the old house was an 831. Given this house is supposed to be a long-term place, I thought I'd not skimp and went with the Green IQ. With hindsight . . . . . . . . . . .

I've got ongoing issues with one just now . Intermittent f35's
Swapped corroded flue .
Then s40 status (limp mode)
New c/o sensor & now s58 status.
Carried out full reset of the factory & p settings, ran calibration as per vaillant tech & its now back to intermittent f35's.
Vaillant can sort their own dross with the IQ's.
