Efficient painting without getting splashes on wooden beams

Hi. I have a 16th century cottage and about to decorate on of the bedrooms.

It has wooden beams at irregular intervals - typically 30cm-60cm spanning most walls and ceilings. Semi structural - and listed!

Looking for recommendations to avoid paint splashes on beams as I'd rather be using a roller if possible.

It's a bit of a pain, but when I decorated a listed property in Coventry many moons ago, I masked every single beam using masking tape and newspapers.
A hell of a job.

For a non professional decorator, I would say use masking tape.

If you really want to try cutting in - follow some YouTube videos and practice - it does take skill and experience and you might finding masking quicker and looks sharper

Dont use cheap stuff, use decent tape like frog tape and take it off soon after.

try a few different methods, sometimes pulling tape off whilst paint is a bit wet is best.

You'll still get splashes (well a fine spray really) from a roller in my experience, tape/mask/cover everything that you don't want getting paint on. Actually once you've done that it makes the whole painting bit a lot easier.
