I just had a visit from from the Aga rep. He tried very hard to sell me an electric model which looks and acts just as the traditional one but much more controlable (aparently). The running cost is about £20 a week which seems v.high to me even asuming that i replaces lets say, one rad. Does anyone have any thoughts on this please? Thanks

This is ludicrous amount of money per week - more or less the average UK household fuel bill on its own. You may be able to cook with it & heat a rad or two, but it won't wash your clothes, keep your food fresh or keep the lights on for you.
These appliances are more about lifestyle than practicality for most people. If you want to pay this much to impress your neighbours good luck.

(P.S. They're also very quirky to cook with - I've done it!)

If it acts the same as an oil or gas one, it'll be on all the time, hot all the time. Bear in mind a unit of electric is about 4-5 times the cost of a unit of gas. Now you see why its a bad idea.
