Hi, I'm looking for some advice concerning the installation of my electric fire. I bought the fire second hand and it was wired into a fused spur in the old house. I have a double socket at the side of my fireplace which I am looking to use to power it. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this, as I know it needs to be fused but I can't seem to find a fused spur which will fit a double socket. Thanks for any help.

You could put a plug on it instead of a fused spur. But what is the power (W) or current (A) of the fire? Should be marked somewhere. And what is the double socket used for at the moment? Is it just a general purpose socket on the ring circuit?

Hi, its a 2kw fire and the socket is for general purpose on the ring circuit. When the fire was new it had a 13A fused plug on it.

That would be fine then. You could put a 10A fuse in the plug if you really wanted.

If you want to hide the cable, or for any other reason want to use a fused spur, then you have to remove the double socket box and replace with a single gang box for the spur unit.
