Hi chaps,

Please forgive my lack of knowledge of electrics. I am replacing an electric shower in an old 70's house. A friend at work has mentioned that i need to earth the water pipe some how. I understand why i have to do this but not sure how. Is it possible to just fit an earth clamp on the pipe and route it to the earth that the shower cable goes to inside the unit?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Tom

Yes a BS951 Earth clamp and 4mm green/yellow to showers earth terminal.
Also a 4mm from shower isolator to lighting earth in ceiling fitting.

Excellent - cheers for the quick reply.

Whats the benefit of earthing the isolator to the lighting earth? Is that not the same thing? Again excuse my lack of knowledge here....

The cpc of the lighting circuit will have a higher resistance than that of the shower cable. Bonding the two will ensure there is no potential difference between the two, even for a second.
