My electric shower is broken. I need to replace it but don't know what type to get. I have a combi-boiler. I'm on a limited budget. Help!

Consider a Triton with the same Kw rating as your old one.

You should be able to have it supplied and fitted for approx £200 + :D

How do I find out the KW?
It's a Gainsborough ES550 and was here when I bought the house last year. Help!

Yours will be 7.2 or 8.5 kW depends on the heat exchanger, check the cover should be there somwhere. Alternatively check cable size if you have an access to it. This may be helpful:

The bigger the cable the more powerful shower you can have without re-wiring. Triton or Mira are the good ones. Good luck.

If it is a 7.2Kw then would it need rewiring to be replaced by a 8.5kw? But if it is a 8.5Kw then can I put a lower one on it?

A lower one would give noticably worse shower performance. You really need a sparky in to check and advise. There is more to it than just cable size, ie switch ratings, mcb ratings etc. It needs to be done right.

I would suggest that the electrics forum might be a better place to start ;)
