We asked our sparks to install a spur off the upstairs ring for an extra socket. Today I discovered that it is controlled by the same circuit breaker as the kitchen and utility. Don't ask me how I found out - a change of pants was almost involved.

Is this a sin? Can I use this to beat him over the head with?

You want to beat him with your pants?

It is preferable to have a marker label on the MCB at the CU to identify what it controls "Kitchen Sockets and FCU for Hot Tub" or whatever. It is a good idea to put a label on the outlet as well; in an attempt to prevent experiences like yours.

p.s. I suppose your CU does have clear labelling?

Oh yes! Sparky himself kindly labelled the switches for us with his little label making machine. Then he did this.....

technically its not breaking any regs as far as i can think but its not brilliant practice i admit...... the very least he should have done is attached a few labels warning you though.

.........but then again you should have tested dead before working on the circuit really, always expext the unexpected.
