Okay electrics in the extension all installed by electrician, told me during the installation that his ticket or card had expired, and he was not renewing due to retirement, but dont panic, he would get a college to sign off on it. cut a long story short, his friend will not sign off on it, the council has informed me i have to have a specialist firm to check what he has done and the bill will be in excess of £250..i really hate spending money, its almost a pet hate, i dont want to go down the route of taking sparky to court....any suggestions?

Well im not an electrician so dont take my advice as written in stone, but my mate had a similar situation.

I dont think you will find an electrician that will sign off on his work, unless of course he really needs the cash. The problem you have got is that any other electrician hasnt seen the electrics being installed so it would be quite risky to put their own name to it.

Personally i would follow the council's advice as that way you know everything is all above board. I know no one likes spending money out but £250 to have a specialist firm out will be a lot cheaper in the long run than having all the electrical work re done.

Then he was already breaking the law.

No way that his friend would have been allowed to.

Let's hope it's put a serious dent in their friendship.

Sadly you have no choice but to pay.

You really should seek to get the money from the guy who was entirely to blame for the situation you're in. Actually - you should never have paid him in the first place.

I wonder what they mean by 'specialist firm'?
Or are they talking about obtaining a Full Periodic Inspection report?
