The electricity company sells you electricity along one wire. Then they immediately get it back along another wire. Now the ingenius bit . . . They sell the same electricity right back to you again! In fact the last time any new electricity was generated was 1974.
Was it really so recent? As far as I can work out, the last time any new electricity was generated was about 11,000,000,000 years ago when the first charged particles condensed out of some kind of quark soup. This is of course pure speculation because nobody was there to see it happen, not even the space cats! Despite our best efforts to smash atoms into a lot more pieces than we started out with, charge remains obstinately conserved.
