If there is no gas in the area then consider an oil fired central heating system. Allthough oil price varies with crude prices overall it is cheaper than LPG or electric and modern condenser boilers are very efficient and tanks can be unobtrusive. I have a Stanley oil fired cooker/boiler and these are noteably inefficient due to the type of burner, but it has just cost me just over £250 for Cooking, heating and hot water since February. That is only £35 a month + a small amount of electric for lighting and freezers etc.
