Hi Guys,

I have been asked by a customer to recommend a decent electronic descaler, however I have never fitted one or had any experience of them. Has anyone on here used one they would reccomend or alternatively any that they would advise me to steer clear of. Are they even a worthwhile investment?

Any posts appreciated.

Thanks

There are no such things as electronic descalers.

There ARE magnetic and electronic water conditioner which CLAIM to have some effect on scale buildup.

Search this site and you will see many discussions about them. There is no independent test evidence and many think they do nothing at all.

My vies is the magnetic ones DO have a useful efect but the electronic ones are of no value because the magnetic field is so weak.

I would say fit a permanent magnet one.

The salient question is what does the customer hope to achieve?

You can get electrolytic scale reducers by people like salamander etc.

Personnaly kalguard+ by watermatic, electronic scale reducer.you set the current by the water hardness.they actually work atreat but the price will put most off.

I went to an IOP seminar on water treatment.

It was really very disappointing as it was just a succession of people from different manufacturers all saying their products were the best.

The only type that seemed half credible were the electrolytic ones but they are rarely seen.

From useage in the laundry industry I know that magnetic ones do have an effect if all the conditions are correct.

Thanks guys,

Does anyone know the main difference between one of these and a water softener?

A water softener is the only one that actually removes hardness!
