Hi, i am going to be fitting a small en suite toilet and sink in my bedroom, i have enough room to run a full size soil pipe in between the ceiling of my lounge and the floor of my bedroom. The pipe would then go underground in the kitchen and the connect up to the sewer from there.

I need to know what type of connection to use at the back of the new toilet and sink. Also someone mentioned a durgo valve and rodding eye (not sure about those).

I have no soil stack currently (does this cause a problem?)

A little help ould be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What you propose MUST be vented from the WC end to the outside air........have you thought about the noise from the soilpipe above the living room ceiling:oops:

Hi, thanks for the reply i was going to use some insulation around the pipe to try and stop some noise. Will the pipe really be that noisy?

So does the pipe from the toilet have to go through the roof or is this where the durgo valve comes in?.

What about the rodding eye?

Cheers

You can only use a durgo(air admittance valve ) if your house has another vented stack...Rodding eye, in the event of a wc blockage .99% are cleared from the pan.I`ve never seen a rodding eye used yet on soil pipe...Noise, It`s your house/family using the "facility" Vent thru roof ...yes, Tho` @ my last house I went out thru` the wall and up.( because the area was hidden from view-looked ugly)must terminate 3feet above any window within 15 feet...sorry I`m still imperial

Thanks again for the reply, as i am also having the main bathroom altered i could add a soil vent pipe up the side of my ground floor bathroom. I could then use a durgo valve in my loft space?

As far as the noise issue goes i was going to use a saniflo but i was strongly advised against it. There is only 2 of us in the house in any case.

Is the vent pipe just a pipe from the inspection chamber up the side of the house?

Cheers

Saniflo   Good descision....some old manholes are vented right up to above roofline as described, but mostly I`ve seen a short pipe say 5-6 foot up wall...this was an air inlet before the durgo was invented :? they used to have a grill with a mica flap behind , hinged to allow air in and not smells out  ...that`s on old houses maybe up to WW11 build. I personaly would go beyond the durgo in the loft scenario and go thru tiles with a preformed flashing round the pipe...At the end of the day your best answers will come from your local council Building Control office. But now you`ve got a better idea, you could take a sketch plan to them

thanks again for the reply, if i go through the roof with the soil pipe do i just put a guard on the end or is there a valve or something ot is it just open.

Thanks
Andy
