Hi,

Looking for some help with a potential project. We would like to put an en-suite in and the best place for it to go is as marked on the attached.

However, that is at the front of the house and there is a porch below it. As you’ll see from the plans, the drainage is at the back of the house, although our neighbours have a soil pipe to the side now from when they have extended so presumably the drainage runs that side.

Anyway, my concern really is whether this is possible from an internal perspective - I don’t know how we would be able to run the soil pipe from a central toilet to a soil stack at the side. Has anyone done this before? I don’t particularly want to come below the joists and essentially box it in to the ceiling in the porch/lounge if I can avoid it!

Thanks,

I know people poo poo them (excuse the pun) but would a macerator work for you - only a 22mm pipe for the waste would be needed. I have a Sanislim in my downstairs WC and they can cope with a WC, a basin and a shower.

The key point is the fall - if you're installing a toilret then you need to fit a 110mm soil pipe with a fall of at least 25mm/m. If that isn't do'able within the floor space then it's a non starter, given your other constraints.

As suggested a macerator would be a solution but I honestly never recommend them to clients above ground/main drain level level. If it's a basement and the waste needed to be lifted then that would be the only option but not an upstairs bathroom

As far as drainage at the side is concerned you may find your neighbours had to extend the drains to that point to accommodate the extension, a question to them would clear that up and that may be your only sensible option.
