the tile heating input cable? is the same and un-moved but new cables from thermostat to floor and the same with light stuff(not to floor of coarse!! ) anyway the electrician has said we need a new fuse box with rcd to comply but we dont want this yet ( will be done with extension if finances ok!!) my husband, who is an arguementative git :) , has found rcd fused spurs? from screwfix and asked the electrician to fit them where cables come through at ceiling height(outside of coarse!) anyway electrician is saying thats not right but my hubby bless him  is sure it is (has now studied book thing) please help as its this or a dark shower till finances ok!!

You couldn't use an RCD FCU as you propose.

The FCU would only protect the cable on the outgoing terminals, which would not comply with BS7671 (the wiring regs)

In very simple and general terms - for any new work after July 1st this year any cables concealed less than 50mm from surface of wall/ceiling require RCD protection. It may be possible to provide an RCD or RCBO or two covering the altered or new bathroom circuits from your existing consumer unit (fuse box). However as said previously your electrician is ultimately doing you a favour in the long run by his suggestion. Yes more money up front but saves money and makes life safer both now and later.
