Engineered Wood Flooring: Glue Required in Tongue & Groo

going to be helping a friend lay some EW flooring. he has been told (by the guy in the shop) that it is not click/lock type stuff and will require gluing the joints in the tongue and groove.

should we take this as gospel, or if it transpires that we need to apply a reasonable amount of force by hammering to make the joint, could the glue be omitted? it will be a floating floor.
