Epson v500 scanner problem

Hi. I don't know if anyone on here has any experience of this scanner?
I purchased it to scan large format negatives. I have the latest drivers from the Epson website.
The problem is the scanner is not recognising the size of The negatives, I can't find any way to manually input the size either.
Any help appreciated.

Do you not have the Epson smart panel with that scanner?

Yes, I have the latest Epson software. Only way it seems to work is to uncheck the thumbnail box, and then manually select the scan area.
