I have a Stelrad ideal w wall mounted boiler serviced annually that's driving me nuts. This problem has been ongoing since we moved into this house 3 years ago. When the boiler goes to fire up first thing in the morning by the programmer I can hear the pump kicking in then a few clicking sounds then nothing but the pump running. To rectify this problem I have to switch the power off to the boiler then a few seconds later switch it back on and hey presto it fires up then it switches off and on all day as it should do in conjunction with the room and boiler stats. Then the same problem occurs the next morning or when returning home from work and switching on the room stat. As a result of this problem our programmer being used on timer mode is pointless. I mentioned this at the last service 2 weeks ago and he suggested a new programmer which I duly fitted to no avail i also tried bypassing the suppressor but it made no difference. This problem use to happen say once a month but now it's a regular occurence, please could someone out there help me with this as I need a good sleep for once.

Possibly meter governor sticking first thing in the morning or when not used for a while.

Seen a few lately! Usually ok for the rest of the time it is in use.

Thanks BDL for your reply. Could you tell me if
the meter governor can be repaired or am I better getting it replaced and if so roughly how much will this set me back.

Call a Corgi engineer to check the gas pressure etc, it is probably best to get checked at the time it is likely to stick though.

If sticking governor then Transco will replace free of charge.

Could also be gas valve.

BDL just out of curiosity this morning first thing I came down stairs and fired up all the rings on my gas hob as well as our gas fire in the sitting room, I then switched up the room stat to fire up the boiler and same old story I eventually had to switch off the pwer and then back on before it fired up . Do you think it could still be the meter governor or more than likely the gas valve???????????????????

Wonder if the gas valve is at fault? It's not one I've met before, but if you try removing the IEC power plug from the boiler (instead of removing all power) and immediately reconnecting it you should be able to isolate the problem to this, or eliminate it. The gas valve will "clunk" as you re-connect the lead.

There is nothing else on these boilers except the boiler thermostat :?

It does sound as if its the gas valve sticking.

Unusual on this model though!
