Is it safe to plug in any charger....we only have the manufactures word and its stated compliance to a standard eg CE

Which by the way is one of the most fundamentally stupid ideas of brexit....in the UK anything made must have the UKCA or in Northern Ireland the UKNI mark but seeing as this is not acceptable in the rest of the world as nobody accepts our standard if you want to sell overseas it will need a CE mark. So we have to adhere to the CE mark regardless as we cannot ensure that any items with just the UKCA mark will not be exported and therefore now we must adhere to two standards otherwise a manufacturer will fall foul of the grey export law and still be responsible for items somebody else ships overseas....wow its a gift we have for shooting ourselves in the head by shoving the gun up our ar$e

CE mark does not mean its safe, just that someone has put a CE mark on it. To be properly assured of an items safety it needs to be tested and compliant with the relevant standards. The item referred to in the link was declared to conform but subsequently found not to by testing.

You can put any mark on anything and it is meaningless unless properly designed, manufactured in accordance with those designs and tested to ensure it meets the design standard.

The easee devices are CE marked, but there is now doubt about whether they do comply.

Be it an electric gate, or an electric car, we as the general public rely on the item being safe for us and our children, I watched an old man walking pass cars parked so not enough room for him to use his stick, so he was leaning on every car as he when past for support, non were electric so no electrical issue, I know my wife tells me off for leaning on her car, but it is some thing we all do, we touch things, be it a wall or car or hand rail, it is all well and good for a car parked on charge in the rear of the property or garage, but if parked where legitimate visitors walk past, Milkman, Postman etc. Then it needs to be safe.

If I buy some thing from screwfix, should there be a recall, they could tell me, but all the other retail outlets, they would not have my name and address so could not tell me of any recall, I do not read the papers, I may look on the BBC local news, we would hope the EV charging point installers have the addresses where installed, but really as a new circuit, the organisation who would know would be the LABC. However when I requested copies of my missing compliance and completion certificates, I was told it would take 4 months. And would the LABC know which EV charge point installs have which make of interface, not really a charger that's in the car.

The CE mark is the same as any made in...
My friend in Italy produces furniture and most of his stuff comes from China.
They assemble it, fit a few bits made in Italy and put a nice "Made in Italy" mark on them.
They then sell for double the price of other identical furniture without this mark.
Incidentally, their real made in Italy furniture, made entirely by them, is a lot more expensive but the stock is sold a lot slower.
POD Parma ham is made with Danish pork.
In other words, those marks mean f#ck all.
