1) Potterton Suprima 40/ gas

2) Cold radiators. When you turn the heating on the boiler goes on normally for a minute and then the indicator flashes green or green and amber. The system then turns itself off (it's not the thermostat. That's working normally - clicking at the right time etc.)

We had a motorised valve replaced today (and a section of pipe). The plumber definitely drained the system and then bled the radiators after he'd finished replacing the valve. We think that something hasn't been turned on or the pump needs bled (maybe? it's a Bosch Grudfos pump but can't for the life of me figure out how to). Went up to the attic and investigated the system (it's an open system I think - two tanks). To the best of our knowedge all the stopcocks are open. When we press down on the ballcock the little tank filled up. Not really too sure what else to do.

Every radiator is cold so I don't think our most immediate problem is that the radiators need bled - although I'm fully expecting to have to do this tomorrow.

The problem with the system started two days ago - the motorised valve had given up the ghost so we weren't getting heating, only hot water. We've got scalding hot water now, but no heating (which seems a bit odd becaus we haven't asked for hot water...)

Ack, so confused! We are going to call the company tomorrow but I'm a bit suspicious they won't be open on a Saturday so I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

New valve probably wired wrong.

To bleed a pump simple unscrew the big silver screw in the middle till all the air exits.

Does asking for hot water give you hot water?

Did they leave the system working?

If not then I wouldn't even wait until tomorrow - phone them now.

If they won't come out and rectify whatever mistake they've made, then your consumer rights entitle you to call someone else to get it working, and deduct the cost of doing that from what you owe the first company.

Ha B@@llocks i'm going to bed at 1am :D

GPlumb - How will I be able to tell if the valve is wired wrong? It isn't making a noise anymore when we turn the boiler on - but then maybe the noise I associated with it has been a bad sign all along! Is there any point bleeding the pump? The pipes around it are both scalding hot right now - so it'll have to wait until the morning anyway.

Right now we're not getting hotwater anyway - but I'm assuming that might be because our storage tank is full or the pressure's too high (don't have a pressure guage though as far as I can see - sorry, only moved here recently and you don't bother looking for these things until you need 'em!). The first time we put on the heating it stayed on for about 30mins and then turned itself off - but no radiator got warm.

Softus - I guess not. He basically looked to see if the pilot light was on and that was it. Hindsight's a wonderful thing but the next time a plumber comes into this house he's not leaving until the radiators have got hot! I'll deal with that tomorrow - my bed looks more appealing right now than waiting up for an emergency plumber!

As already said, the new valve is not controlling, get the plumber back
