Excessive window reveals

Hi,

I've noticed in the house I've just moved into - the window reveals seem a little "excessive" (image below)

Many of the windows have mould in the plaster around the reveals - making me think that they are probably sealed poorly as well

Does having such large amount of overlap cause cold spots?
